Sonographer

Key Responsibilities

Designation: Sonographer

Location: North West London, United Kingdom (Transfer Costs Inclusive)

Clinical Practice
  • Independently perform and report variety of scan which may include obstetrics, general abdominal, DVT, gynaecology and early pregnancy examinations.
  • To work according to ultrasound protocols and schemes of work and refer to Consultant Radiologist or senior sonographers for difficult / complex cases.
  • Liaise with members A/E / GOPD and other teams.
  • Maintain a high standard of ultrasound practice and patient care.
  • Work with team to ensuring that extra, urgent or inpatient scans are accommodated.
  • Have Nuchal accreditation and DQASS registration (green flag).
  • Follow Fetal anomaly screening programme guidelines.
  • Follow Saving Babies Lives guidelines for 3rd trimester scanning.
Leadership and staff management
  • Responsible for own caseload.
  • Demonstrates high quality of work and lead by example.
  • Effective time management in high workload area.
  • Participate in vetting requests.
  • Promote good working relationships between multidisciplinary teams.
  • Supervises work of junior staff.
Management of Resources/Equipment
  • Maintain a high standard of equipment care ensuring that staff within the department carry out cleaning of the machines and environs on a daily basis. This includes checking all images have gone to the Picture archiving system.
  • Report and log all equipment faults to deputy / lead sonographer.
  • To manage the process of replenishment of ultrasound consumables by communicating the required quantity for re-ordering.
  • Able to handle information concerning waiting lists.
Professional Responsibility
  • Participate in the clinical governance process.
  • Attend and participate in clinical meetings. Ensure all hospital safety policies, procedures and fire regulations are observed.
  • Report any concerns/incidents that cannot be dealt with at a team level to the line manager.
  • Liaise with departmental, ward and other colleagues to ensure the safe and efficient running of the department.
  • Carry out any other duties delegated by the line manager/Lead sonographer.
  • To take part in the data recording, clinical reporting and Quality assurance programmes needed to provide a high-quality service.
  • Participate in research and audit projects.
Education/Qualifications
  • Post graduate level qualification or equivalent.
  • Post graduate specialist diploma in medical/obstetric ultrasound.
  • HCPC, RCT or NMC registration.
Knowledge and Experience
  • Sound knowledge of clinical ultrasound and interpretation of complex information/images.
  • Cross sectional anatomy.
  • Common pathologies seen on Ultrasound.
  • CPD evidence.
